The Postgraduate Study Program in Classical Studies is offered by the Department of Philology of the University of Crete (https://www.philology.uoc.gr/). It is dedicated to the scholarly investigation of the languages, cultures, and literatures of classical antiquity.
The program provides students with in-depth knowledge across a variety of topics related to the ancient world and pays due attention to modern and interdisciplinary approaches to the study of antiquity. Key modules in the curriculum include Greek and Roman poetry and prose, aspects of ancient Greek and Roman culture, the reception of Greek and Latin literature, textual criticism, and digital humanities. The program’s primary goals are to prepare highly skilled classicists who will contribute both to the public and private sectors, engage in research projects, pursue doctoral studies, and participate in research centers both in Greece and abroad.
The program is tuition-free.
The duration of the program is four semesters
for full-time study and eight semesters for part-time study and leads to an MA degree in Classical Studies upon successful completion of a total of 120 ECTS credits.
Admissions
Admission to the MA Program in Classical Studies is by examination.
The admission exams for the program take place in January and September. Applicants who wish to start their studies in February 2025 will be examined on January 20 and 21, 2025.
The top-ranked candidate in the entrance examinations will receive the Efthymios Koumentakis Excellence Award, which includes a cash prize
of €1,000.
SCHOLARSHIPS, EMPLOYMENT, AND FREE ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS
Postgraduate students are eligible to apply for University of Crete scholarships and awards. Additionally, students may have the opportunity to engage in teaching or research assistantships as part of their academic or research activities.
